ENRICHMENT

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 19

1 – 3 P.M.

HOPE YOU WILL BE THERE

Thanks to all of you who turned out for Enrichment in September. It was a great crowd and we produced a lot of enrichment for the keepers to give the chimps. It was terribly hot that day and I was the only one who fell by the wayside, so I am most grateful for all the work you did. I do believe that we have to change our schedule next year and designate July, August and September  as our months without enrichment workshops.

We will have guests for our October workshop on the 19th. Girl Scout Troop 957 will be bringing the paper mache pumpkins that they have made for the chimps and will fill them and seal them up for the keepers to hide. These Girl Scouts and their leader Peggy have offered to also do the papermache Easter eggs for us next year.  This is such a big job taken off our to-do list and our thanks go out to each and every one of them. Please try to join us, the more hands, the more goodies we produce.

It isn't too early to start saving toys, stuffed animals, clothes, sheets, blankets, hats, and all those other things on our enrichment list for the chimps Christmas. We will be packing and wrapping on December 14th, a week earlier than usual since Santa arrives on the 18th. Hope everyone will try to come as it is a big undertaking.

I have a couple more mistakes on the register to pass along to you:

We are working on getting the new software. Bev is not sure yet if she will be able to go to the conference so we may try to get it sent to us. Hang in there, it is really for real and we will have a class as soon as we get our hands on it.

Now that the heat is giving us a break now and then, I hope that more of you will get out to the preserve to observe. If everyone has a good handle on following each chimp for 20 minutes, then we will all learn the new observing regimen together.
