THE CHIMPS…… and us

......Thanks to everyone who made it to Sharon’s for the March meeting. I wonder if some of you got lost and never found it. They tell me the street signs are not readable in the dark. So there was a lot of driving around in circles.
Sorry about that.

......The biggest news of the month is that Lauren Malcom’s picture of Optimus waiting for the bus won the BLUE RIBBON FIRST PRIZE in the Palm Beach Post Photo contest!!!!! Isn’t that exciting? We keep looking for it to be in the newspaper. There is an 8 x 10 blowup of it at the Woodswalk Publix at Lake Worth and 441 if any of you live near there.

Congratulations to Lauren!!!!
We are proud of you!!!!

......Bashful’s group was in and out of the “house” to check on Melody who seems to be losing weight. No diagnosis yet. Figment seems to be collecting scars, if you notice any harassment by the other chimps, please notify the keepers or if you don’t see them, leave a note at the desk to be put in Terry’s box.

......For those of you doing narrative observations, I would like to suggest that you try following one chimp, as we do in the scientific observations, for twenty minutes and write what that chimp does. If you see something really important to report that does not involve your chimp, do note the time and write the action down.

…..and STUFF

......We had a great turnout for last month’s enrichment to fill and paint our piñata’s. They turned out great. Now we have to set a date to give them to the chimps so that as many of us as possible can watch.

......This month’s enrichment will find us making paper mache eggs to help the Easter Bunny give the chimps treats. The holiday is a week before our next workshop. So there will have to be a decision made about decorating and filling the eggs. So I hope as many as possible will come out to help next Sunday, the 21st because it is really a big job to make all those eggs. If enough people show up maybe we can get some other jobs done also.

......Remember to bring your stash of things you have saved from the enrichment list to the workshop, or if you can’t be there, please bring them to the keepers when you come out to observe. With this beautiful weather I do hope I see more of you out in the preserve doing your observations. It is important that we step up our visits now.
